HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!! Add a comment with your favorite memory of Mom.
Well lets see . . . something to share about mom. Well there is one memory I have about mom that is both funny and a little embarrassing(?spelling) I was going to an activity of some sort with some friends. And I can't totally remember who the friends were, but I think it was new to hang out with them because I was so worried about what they thought about everything. Anyway, Mom was driving for us and this was in the Laurelwood Trailer Park. We were driving through there and if you can remember there were speed bumps throughout the entire park. Well mom came to the first speed bump and slowed down so much that the car actually rolled back off the speed bump instead of going over it slowly. I don't know why, but I have never forgotten that. Secondly, One of my favorite times spent with mom was working on wedding cakes. We did a few together and I really enjoyed that she shared that talent and skill with me. I wish I had more time to use and perfect those skills. Anyway; Mom and I had a good time working together. There was a lot of sugar consumed by eating our mistakes. Mostly by mom! Everytime I looked at her she was licking frosting from a tooth-pick or knife or just her fingers! There was a lot of laughing because we put our hands somewhere resulting in yet another fix to be made or because we were up way too late to be serious about anything, of course mom and I could just laugh no matter what was going on good or bad with the cake we were working on. I think it was a good stress reliever for both of us. There was always a near disaster whether by transporting the cake or putting the cake together you could always count on something going wrong, but never bad enough to ruin it all completely. Mom was good at troubleshooting and finding away around the hurdles we faced. Those were good times!
One of my favorite funny memories of mom was watching her drive the big old blue ford pick-up truck. She could not see over the dash and push the clutch in all the way at the same time. When she could see over the dash she could barely see over the dash and looked between the top of the steering wheel and the dash. Looking back I should have been scared to death. I am amazed she would even drive that old truck, but, she would load us kids in and take us grocery shopping or to scholl or wherever we needed to be.
One of my fondest memories which gets more endearing to me each year as I have my own kids is how she dealt with my asthma. All of my childhood memories are of me coughing, coughing day and night. She would come into my room at night and sweetly tell me to role over onto my side or stomach because laying on my back made it worse. The pills I needed to take were so big I could not swallow them whole so she would crush them up and mix them with jelly or something sweet to help me take it. I do not know why she did not just shoot me and put me out of our misery.
